Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Kansas City branch of Dr. Sketchy and had a lot of fun. The models this time around were "The Whiskey Girls" a cowgirl themed dance troupe.
This Blue one was inspired by Jas, an amazing artist who I met last time I went to Dr. Sketchy's. My original idea was to draw in negative space, but I didn't end up doing that, I mostly was just surprised at how much my style changed when I deprived myself of an eraser.
For my last sketch of the night I was exhausted, and just did a pen drawing of a models face...
They start out with one minute gesture drawing poses, move on to five, then ten, then fifteen minute poses with some breaks in between. After the fifteen minutes they perform a short show, and then move on to two twenty minute poses.
In addition to the models, fellow artists have fun socializing and even drawing each other during breaks! There's also tea and really good food most of the time. And the host for the KC branch (Sunshine) is totally awesome. It's really a fun thing to do, aspiring artists should definitely check it out!
Colored pencils and blinged out belts~
Aw man!! Cowgirls were there this time?! Ahhh! I'm sad that I missed that! D: Your drawings look great though, especially the experimental ones! It's always nice to try something new! :)
ReplyDeleteJa, I always get bolder as the night develops, it's when I try new things out that I really have fun!
